A Vintage Lady

I have an hour to kill every day for the next few weeks and there just happens to be a C.S. nearby  :)  I picked up this cushion cover last week, the cover itself isn't very good but I love the lady. The stitches are very woolie looking, I'm hoping it will be ok when I wash it.
I also bought a big bag of rug making things, Readicut was big for many years. I'm not sure I will ever have a go at it so this might end up on

E bay, it was worth buying just for the booklet and original  receipt.

I remember my Mum making one of these when I was very young, the bits of fluff went everywhere and the canvas was very heavy and hot to hold. Does anyone know what you use to back a rag rug ? I thought that might be fun to make.
I have been given some more buttons to add to my hoard, but I will post those next week.
Have a lovely Weekend

Remembering Charlotte

Charlotte our beautiful twin daughter 20-1-88
Time does not heal it just numbs the pain
I am not there
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the snow on the mountain's rim,
I am the laughter in children's eyes,
I am the sand at the water's edge,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle Autumn rain,
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the star that shines at night,
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

This little piggy

We went for a walk the other day, one side of the path is the beach and water and the other is marsh and farmland. What a suprise we got, one of the locals had penned off a large area of field, at first we couldn't see anything, all of a sudden out of a muddy ditch came this little fellow he was so friendly I wanted to to take him home. Before we knew what was happening we had a crowd.
We felt so guilty because we had nothing for them to eat. They didn't seem at all bothered by our dog but I think she was in a bit of shock as she just stood and stared at them.I did have to wash my coat when I got home as they had brushed up and down my sleeves with smelly mud.

I have just started a new course for work and sent off my first assignment today, yippee I thought,
only x more months to go

Before I go I have to say WELL DONE to my son for passing his driving test today

It seems like only yesterday
Love you lots

Hope you all have a good week bye for now Cate x

Easy Peasy Lemon Squeesy

A nice easy recipe for toast, cakes, scones or anything else you can think of. You can use clementines or oranges which are everywhere now. Be careful not to get any pith when you take off the zest and don't let it get too hot or you will have a bit of scrambled egg in with it :)

LEMON CURD

Makes 2 small jam jars
zest and juice of 4 unwaxed lemons
200g sugar
100g butter
3 eggs and 1 egg yolk
Put the lemon zest and juice, the sugar and the butter, cut into cubes, into a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water, making sure that the bottom of the basin doesn't touch the water. Stir with a whisk from time to time until the butter has melted.
Mix the eggs and egg yolk lightly with a fork, then stir into the lemon mixture. Let the curd cook, stirring regularly, for about 10 minutes, until it is thick and custard-like. It should feel heavy on the whisk.
Remove from the heat and stir occasionally as it cools. Pour into spotlessly clean jars and seal. It will keep for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator.

I sterilize my jars and lids by pouring on boiling water, you can also put them in the oven.
If you haven't tried making it have a go, it's so much nicer than shop bought, enjoy :)
This one of Nigel Slaters recipes I love his cooking.

Woke up this morning to thick frost, but the sun is shining and the birds are singing what more could you want ? well it is Saturday.
Have a good weekend everyone
