My Mate

My husband bought this little tin for me at the weekend knowing how much I like Marmite and tins :)

Marmite was introduced in 1902 the cubes came later in 1930. I read somewhere that they reappeared again in the 50's. Being vege I use it to add depth of flavour to soups and stews and I would love one of those huge pots they use on cafe counters but where  would I put it ;)

As they say you either love it or hate it, there are a number of web pages with information on the history and its association with vegemite etc.
I hate vegemite yuk : (

Are you a lover or a hater ?

Morning Cate, I have the very same tin, not that I have ever tasted marmite.

Vegemite is good but you only need 3 thin little scrapes of it on your toast, not thick and not all over, that would be disgusting :) Have a good one, Tamara x

I am checking out the goodies in the jars Cate! Mmmmmm!!
I was brought up on Vegemite in NZ as a child so I know no different. Marmite to me has a stronger taste than Vegemite - funny isn't it?
Cheers, Pam

I love Marmite on toast soldiers with a soft boiled egg - yum! Unfortunately both my husband and daughter don't feel the same way about the stuff.

I'm a hater! My son loves it though and I have to endure the smell of it most days.
Never heard of Marmite cubes.
